Ultimately, my hope is that the ethnographic insights developed regarding the dynamics of postwar rebuilding, community development, historical memory, and the politicized issue of migration can shed light on what has now become a global postwar development and peace-building industry. For now, I spotlight one case as it unfolds. 1 Entangled Aftermaths Postwar El Salvador is defined by what I term the entangled aftermaths of war and displacement, aftermaths that have produced postwar deception and dis- illusionment.
